Educational Websites

Educational Websites

~  Free Rice
http://freerice.com/
I played a quick game of vocabulary on Free Rice and easily donated 500 grains of rice.  It was super fun and tested my vocabulary at the same time.  There are other subjects as well: Art, Chemistry, Language Learning, English, Geography, and Math.  The 5th grade teacher I observed recently uses this website in her class.  So all her 50 students at the end of the day donates rice while learning a new language or testing their math skills.  Great website.

I ran into material where I was learning about the constellations.  I loved the "Constellation Jig" song but that constellation game on this website is incredibly difficult.  Trying to find the constellations amongst the diagram given seemed impossible; I couldn't even get past the first task.  There's also a map game.  I played the Asia map match game and I found out there are so many tiny countries that make up the continent.  Another great tool is Kids Biology.  You can learn about the human body and the systems.

~  Teens Health
http://teenshealth.org/teen/
I love this website because it gives nutritional information not only about normal active teens but also athletes.  This will help me in the future when teaching PE or Health class in high school but it also is useful now since I've been looking for good information on athlete nutrition for my gymnasts.  I'm so glad I ran across this.  Teens Health also offers great recipes for teens (vegetarian and not) and teens with cystic fibrosis, diabetes, lactose intolerance, etc; also tobacco, drugs and alcohol information, and sexual health.
